Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a regeneração natural em Áreas de Preservação Permanente em processo de restauração florestal pós-colheita de Pinus sp. por meio do levantamento de parâmetros fitossociológicos. O estudo foi realizado nas APPs associadas a nascentes e rios de duas áreas com diferentes idades pós-colheita de Pinus sp., sendo inseridas em Floresta Ombrófila Mista (FOM - 7 anos) e Floresta Ombrófila Densa em transição (FOD/FOM - 12 anos) ambas no estado de Santa Catarina. Foram alocadas 19 parcelas retangulares com dimensões de 25 m x 4 m (100 m2) de forma aleatória em cada uma das áreas, para a avaliação florístico-estrutural do componente regenerativo arbóreo-arbustivo. Na FOD em transição foram amostrados 913 indivíduos regenerantes de espécies arbóreas e arbustivas, pertencentes a 90 espécies, 60 gêneros e 30 famílias botânicas. As espécies com maior IVI foram Cupania vernalis (8,71%), seguido de Bernardia pulchella (5,93%), Aureliana wettsteiniana (5,25%). Na FOM, área em processo restauração em menor tempo, foram amostrados 782 indivíduos regenerantes de espécies arbóreas, arbustivas, pertencentes a 62 espécies, 21 famílias botânicas e 30 gêneros. As espécies com maior IVI foram Myrsine coriacea (10,06%), Solanum variabile (9,79%), Myrsine lorentziana (7,08%). Os índices de diversidade de Shannon foram H’ = 3,76 para FOD em transição e H’ = 3,24 para FOM, e denotaram alta diversidade de espécies, já o índice de equabilidade de Pielou obteve J = 0,81 para FOD em transição e J = 0,77 para FOM, demonstrando alta uniformidade na distribuição dos indivíduos nas espécies para as duas áreas. A distribuição diamétrica dos indivíduos apresentou padrão “J invertido” para ambas as fitofisionomias, comportamento esperado em florestas nativas. A NMDS apresentou um valor de stress de 9,81% indicando adequabilidade da ordenação e permitindo a realização de inferências com confiabilidade. Por meio da ordenação NMDS, observou-se a formação de dois grupos florístico-estruturais distintos, associados as fitofisionomias de FOM e transição FOM/FOD. Todas as parcelas inseridas em áreas de FOM encontram-se agrupadas à direita na ordenação, enquanto que a maioria das parcelas inseridas na área de transição FOM/FOD estão agrupadas à esquerda da ordenação. O componente regenerativo arbóreo-arbustivo avaliado em áreas pós-colheita de Pinus sp. em ambas as fitofisionomias possui grande diversidade de espécies com grande valor de importância à formação florestal, sendo um ambiente favorável para a conservação de espécies e fundamental para garantir a sucessão da floresta e a resiliência da restauração.

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the natural regeneration in permanent preservation areas (PPA) in forest restoration process after Pinus sp. harvest through the survey of phytosociological parameters.. The study was carried out in the PPA, associated with springs and rivers in two areas with different post-harvest ages of Pinus sp., being inserted in Mixed Ombrophilous Forest (MOF - 7 years old) and Dense Ombrophilous Forest in transition (DOF/MOF - 12 years old) both in the Santa Catarina state. Nineteen rectangular plots with dimensions of 25 m x 4 m (100 m2) were allocated at random in each one of the areas, for the floristic-structural evaluation of the tree-shrub regenerative component. In the DOF in transition, 913 regenerating individuals of tree and shrub species were sampled, belonging to 90 species, 60 genera and 30 botanical families. The species with the highest importance value were Cupania vernalis (8.71%), followed by Bernardia pulchella (5.93%), Aureliana wettsteiniana (5.25%). At MOF, an area undergoing restoration in less time, 782 regenerating individuals of tree and shrub species were sampled, belonging to 62 species, 21 botanical families and 30 genera. The species with the highest importance value were Myrsine coriacea (10.06%), Solanum variabile (9.79%), Myrsine lorentziana (7.08%). Shannon’s diversity indexes were H’ = 3.76 for DOF in transition and H’ = 3.24 for MOF, and showed a high diversity of species, whereas the Pielou equability index obtained J = 0.81 for DOF in transition and J = 0.77 for MOF, showing high uniformity in the distribution of individuals in the species for the two areas. The diametric distribution of the individuals showed an “inverted J” pattern for both phytophysiognomies, behavior expected in native forests. The NMDS (Non-metric multidimensional scaling) presented a stress value of 9.81% indicating suitability of the ordering and allowing inferences to be made with reliability. Through the NMDS ordering, it was observed the formation of two distinct floristic-structural groups, associated with MOF phytophysiognomies and MOF/DOF transition. All plots inserted in MOF areas are grouped to the right in the ordering, while most plots inserted in the MOF/DOF transition area are grouped to the left of the ordering. The tree-shrub regenerative component evaluated in post-harvest areas of Pinus sp. at both phytophysiognomies has a great diversity of species with great importance for forest formation, being a favorable environment for the conservation of species and essential to guarantee the succession of the forest and the restoration resilience.

Abstract During a period of 5 years, we monthly monitor the phenology and the stem diameter increment of 12 of Schinus terebinthifolius trees. Dendrometer bands were used for it. This study was aimed to answer the following questions: (i) Are there conflicting demands for resource allocation in different phenophases? (ii) In which period does the stem diameter increment occur? (iii) Which phenophases are more likely related to stem radial growth? The phenological observations were carried out using the Activity Index. In order to identify patterns in phenology and diameter increment over the assessment period (2010-2015), we performed an analysis of seasonal decomposition, followed by Pearson’s correlation analysis. Apparently, there is no conflicting demand for resources, but an optimized distribution of them, regulated mainly by the allocation of nutrients derived from leaf senescence, as well as, temperature rise and photoperiod. Higher diameter growth rates occurred from December to March which coincided with the flowering period.

RESUMO Em uma área da Floresta Ombrófila Mista Aluvial impactada por vazamento de óleo bruto no município de Araucária - PR, Brasil, conduziu-se o estudo dendroecológico de Sebastiania commersoniana (Baill.) L.B.Sm. & Downs (Euphorbiaceae) e da espécie exótica Hovenia dulcis Thunb. (Rhamnaceae). Os objetivos do estudo foram avaliar o efeito do alagamento da área a partir da construção de diques como medida de descontaminação de petróleo e de fatores meteorológicos no crescimento em diâmetro do tronco de ambas as espécies. Foram coletadas três séries temporais radiais do lenho de cada indivíduo adulto selecionado com uso de sondas de incremento, em duas condições, ambas com solo hidromórfico (Gleissolo Háplico), tendo como diferença a altura do lençol freático: SHT - saturação hídrica temporária (Sebastiania commersoniana n=12; Hovenia dulcis n= 10) e SHP - saturação hídrica permanente (Sebastiania commersoniana n=6; Hovenia dulcis n= 0). Séries cronológicas foram desenvolvidas, correlacionando-as com dados meteorológicos da região. Os resultados demonstraram que os indivíduos da espécie nativa em ambas as condições apresentaram padrão semelhante de crescimento, com tendência de diminuição ao longo dos anos; diferentemente dos indivíduos da espécie exótica, com tendência de aumento do incremento ao longo dos anos. Os indivíduos da condição SHP tiveram taxas menores de incremento após o ano do derramamento, o que mostra que o alagamento da área a partir da construção de diques como tentativa de descontaminação afetou o crescimento dos indivíduos. O crescimento das espécies correlacionou-se com a precipitação apenas na condição SHT. A temperatura mínima representou ser fator limitante ao crescimento de Sebastiania commersoniana, mostrando que temperaturas mais elevadas são importantes para o crescimento, principalmente no início do período deste. Entretanto, a ocorrência de temperaturas muito altas nos meses mais quentes pode ser limitante ao crescimento. Para Hovenia dulcis, nenhuma correlação significativa foi observada com a temperatura, porém, a precipitação mostrou-se fundamental nos meses em que a espécie mais cresce, sendo, no entanto, prejudicial em meses subsequentes às fortes chuvas devido ao efeito de saturação hídrica do solo.

ABSTRACT In a forest remnant of the Alluvial Mixed Rain Forest impacted by crude oil spill in the district of Araucaria in Paraná, Brazil, we conducted a dendroecological study of Sebastiania commersoniana (Baill.) L.B.Sm. & Downs (Euphorbiaceae) and the exotic species Hovenia dulcis Thunb. (Rhamnaceae). The study objectives were to evaluate the effect of the flooding area by dyke construction as way to decontamination petroleum and the meteorological factors in the tree diameter growth of both species. Wood samples were collected using increment borer, from two conditions, both on hydromorphic soils (Haplic Gleisol), but at two sites differing in the depth of the water table: SHT - temporary water saturation (Sebastiania commersoniana n=12; Hovenia dulcis n= 10) and SHP - Permanent water saturation (Sebastiania commersoniana n=6; Hovenia dulcis n= 0). Radial time series were developed and correlated with the meteorological data from the region. Results show that individuals of native species at both soil conditions experienced similar inter-annual growth patterns with decreasing trend over the years; differently individuals of exotic species, with increase of increment over the years. Individuals of SHP condition had lower rates of growth after the year of the spill, which shows that the flooding of the area by construction of dykes as attempt to decontaminate, affected the growth of individuals. The construction of dykes as attempt to decontaminate the area affected de individual growth. Precipitation showed a direct link with tree growth, only at sites with temporary water saturation. Moreover, minimum air temperature is a factor limiting the growth of Sebastiania commersoniana, showing that high temperatures stimulate growth, particularly at the early stages of the growth period while warmer months may depress the growth. Hovenia dulcis showed no significant correlation with temperature, but precipitation arises as crucial factor for growth, but the effect of soil saturation in the subsequent months may limit tree growth.

RESUMO Objetiva-se com este estudo avaliar a periodicidade do incremento em diâmetro do tronco de Sebastiania commersoniana e das espécies arbóreas exóticas invasoras Hovenia dulcis e Ligustrum lucidum em remanescente de Floresta Ombrófila Mista Aluvial em Araucária, Paraná. Foram selecionados indivíduos presentes no dossel e sub-bosque. Cintas dendrométricas foram instaladas em todos os indivíduos selecionados, que foram monitorados mensalmente, de julho de 2009 a junho de 2012. Os incrementos correntes mensais e anuais foram correlacionados com precipitação e temperatura. As espécies exóticas e os indivíduos do dossel apresentaram incremento superior à espécie nativa, que teve pouca variação ao longo do ano, e aos indivíduos de sub-bosque. Correlações significativas do incremento foram obtidas com temperatura e precipitação, mostrando que o crescimento em diâmetro está, em grande parte, relacionado às condições meteorológicas.

ABSTRACT This study aims to evaluate the periodicity of trunk diameter increment of Sebastiania commersoniana and the two invasive exotic tree species, Hovenia dulcis and Ligustrum lucidum, in a remnant area of Alluvial Mixed Rain Forest at Araucaria, Paraná. We selected individuals of the different species present from canopy and understory. Dendrometric bands were installed in all individuals, which were monitored monthly, from July 2009 to June 2012. The monthly and annual current increments were correlated with precipitation and temperature. Exotic species and canopy individuals presented increment higher than native species, which had low variation in the year, and understory individuals. Significant correlations were obtained between the increment diameter and temperature and precipitation, showing diameter growth of the species is mostly conditioned by the meteorological conditions.

Buscou-se avaliar o incremento diamétrico de Blepharocalyx salicifolius (Kunth) O. Berg (Myrtaceae) a partir de cintas dendrométricas fixadas em 11 indivíduos de um remanescente de Floresta Ombrófila Mista Aluvial na Região Metropolitana de Curitiba-PR. Concomitantemente às leituras de incremento, foi avaliado o comportamento fenológico desses indivíduos, durante 24 meses. O incremento diamétrico médio mensal de B. salicifolius variou de 0,36 mm a praticamente nulo nos meses mais frios (de junho a agosto) e até 1,78 mm, durante os meses mais favoráveis (de novembro a março). A taxa média de incremento anual foi de 4,52 mm. O crescimento ainda pouco expressivo nos meses de setembro e outubro pode ser justificado pelo pico de floração e frutificação. A correlação do incremento mensal intraespécie foi alta (r = 0,55), indicando boa sincronia dos dados. A correlação entre o incremento médio, as variáveis meteorológicas e as fenofases apontou que a temperatura média responde por 42% da variação do incremento médio e da frutificação.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the increment in diameter of Blepharocalyx salicifolius (Kunth) O. Berg (Myrtaceae) using dendrometers fixed in eleven trees from a remaining fragment of Alluvial Mixed Ombrophylous Forest in the metropolitan area of Curitiba, state of Paraná. Concomitantly to diametric increase readings, the phenological behavior of trees was evaluated for 24 months. The average monthly increment in diameter of B. salicifolius ranged from 0.36 mm to practically null in the coldest months (June to August) to 1.78 mm during the more favorable months (November to March). The average annual increase was of 4.52 mm. The still inexpressive growth in the months of September and October can be explained by the flowering and fruiting peaks. The correlation of the monthly increase intra-species was high (r = 0.55), indicating good data synchrony. The correlation between the average increase, meteorological variables, and phenophases showed that the average temperature accounts for 42% of the variation in the average growth and fruiting.

Sob o impacto da divulgação do índice de desmatamento recorde em 1995, editou-se a Medida Provisória (MP) 1.511/96, que, dentre outras modificações, aumentou a Reserva Legal na Amazônia de 50 para 80%, na expectativa de conter o desmatamento. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a efetividade dessa medida provisória como ferramenta para auxiliar na conservação do bioma. Para tanto, foram comparadas as taxas de desmatamento nos períodos anterior e posterior à edição da MP, por meio da análise de regressão sobre a variável dicotômica. Os resultados indicaram que não existe diferença significativa entre a área desmatada antes e depois da MP, não sendo possível afirmar que a maior restrição da legislação levou à redução do desmatamento.

Under the impact caused by the disclosure of the record deforestation rate in 1995, the Brazilian Federal Government issued a Provisional Measure (PM) which, among other changes, increased the size of legal reserves in the Amazon from 50 to 80% hoping to reduce deforestation. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of this provisional measure as a tool to assist in the conservation of this biome. To this end, we compared deforestation rates before and after the PM by dummy variable regression analysis. Results indicated that there is no significant difference between the deforested area before and after the PM; we could not demonstrate that increased restriction in legislation has led to deforestation reduction.

RESUMO Os conceitos da qualidade representam um dos fatores importantes para o êxito das organizações, e dentre esses conceitos a estabilização dos processos de produção contribui para a melhoria, redução de desperdícios e aumento da competitividade. Com isso, o objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar o processo de produção de pisos maciços de madeira de espécies comerciais quanto à sua previsibilidade e capacidade, com base em seus pontos críticos. Para tanto, a pesquisa foi dividida em três etapas. A primeira foi o mapeamento do processo da empresa e a elaboração de fluxogramas para as atividades. A segunda foi a identificação e a avaliação dos pontos críticos por meio da metodologia FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) adaptada. A terceira foi a avaliação dos pontos críticos empregando o controle estatístico e a determinação da capacidade do processo pelo índice Cpk. Os resultados mostraram a existência de seis processos, sendo dois identificados como críticos. Nesses dois, quinze pontos foram considerados críticos e dois deles, relacionados com as dimensões das peças e defeitos provocados pela lixa, foram selecionados para avaliação. O processo produtivo da empresa é instável e não é capaz de produzir os pisos dentro das especificações e, portanto, essas especificações devem ser reavaliadas.

ABSTRACT The quality concepts represent one of the important factors for the success of organizations and among these concepts the stabilization of the production process contributes to the improvement, waste reduction and increased competitiveness. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the production process of solid wood flooring on its predictability and capacity, based on its critical points. Therefore, the research was divided into three stages. The first one was the process mapping of the company and the elaboration of flowcharts for the activities. The second one was the identification and the evaluation of the critical points using FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) adapted methodology. The third one was the evaluation of the critical points applying the statistical process control and the determination of the process capability for the Cpk index. The results showed the existence of six processes, two of them are critical. In those two ones, fifteen points were considered critical and two of them, related with the dimension of the pieces and defects caused by sandpaper, were selected for evaluation. The productive process of the company is unstable and not capable to produce wood flooring according to the specifications and, therefore these specifications should be reevaluated.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of meteorological variables in the growth of forest trees in an area of Ombrophylous Floodplain Forest belonging to REPAR in Araucaria, State of Parana. The sample comprised 20 plots of 10 m × 10 m plots. In order to follow the timing and rate of growth of the main tree species, from July 2009 to July 2010, the selected individuals received dendrometric bands. The meteorological data were obtained from the meteorological station of Curitiba, provided by SIMEPAR. The meteorological data and the growth of each species were compared using Pearson’s correlation. The species showed different behavior according to sociological position and the fact of being native or exotic. The weather variable that most influenced the growth of the species was temperature, with a positive correlation to Hovenia dulcis and Sebastiania commersoniana, for individuals in the canopy; and to Ligustrum lucidum, Myrrhinium loranthoides and Sebastiania commersoniana, for individuals in the understory.

RESUMO Este estudo tem como objetivo avaliar a influência das variáveis meteorológicas no incremento diamétrico das espécies florestais em uma área de Floresta Ombrófila Mista Aluvial, em Araucária-PR. A amostragem consistiu de 20 parcelas de 10 m × 10 m. Para acompanhar a periodicidade e a taxa de crescimento das principais espécies arbóreas, de julho de 2009 a julho de 2010, indivíduos selecionados receberam cintas dendrométricas. Os dados meteorológicos foram obtidos por meio da Estação Meteorológica de Curitiba, fornecidos pelo SIMEPAR. A correlação entre os dados meteorológicos foram realizados por meio de Correlação de Pearson. As espécies apresentaram comportamentos distintos conforme a posição sociológica e o fato de serem nativas ou exóticas. A variável climática que influenciou o incremento diamétrico das espécies foi a temperatura, tendo correlação positiva com Hovenia dulcis e Sebastiania commersoniana para os indivíduos do dossel, e com Ligustrum lucidum, Myrrhinium loranthoides e Sebastiania commersoniana, para os indivíduos do sub-bosque.

Este estudo analisou a estrutura do componente arbóreo de uma mata ciliar, no município de Jaguari, RS. A amostragem foi realizada em 15 parcelas de 10mx10m instaladas ao longo da mata ciliar de um afluente do rio Jaguari. Nessas parcelas, foram identificados e medidos os indivíduos com diâmetro à altura do peito (DAP) maior ou igual a 5cm. Podocarpus lambertii, Sebastiania commersoniana e Lithrea molleoides foram as espécies mais representativas da mata ciliar. A distribuição diamétrica do componente arbóreo e das espécies lenhosas de maior valor de importância (VI) seguiu o padrão comum a florestas inequiânias, com tendência à forma de "J" invertido, e revelou uma estrutura não balanceada, indicando que não há equilíbrio entre as taxas de mortalidade e recrutamento de indivíduos. A estrutura vertical e as espécies de maior VI apresentaram tendência à distribuição normal, com a maioria dos indivíduos posicionada nas classes intermediárias de altura.

This study analyzed the tree component structure of a riparian seasonal decidual forest, in Jaguari, RS. Data was collected in 15 10mx10m-plots randomly assigned along the riparian forest of a Jaguari river tributary. In these plots trees showing DBH equal or above 5cm were identified and measured. Podocarpus lambertii, Sebastiania commersoniana and Lithrea molleoides were the most representative species of the riparian forest. The tree diameter distribution in general and for the species with the higher importance value index showed the inverted "J" trend, typical of uneven-aged forests, and unbalanced structure resulting from different mortality and recruitment rates. The vertical and height species structure showing the highest importance value tended to normal distribution, with most of the individuals positioned in or close to the average height class.

RESUMO O presente estudo teve por objetivo quantificar a massa e o estoque de nutrientes da serapilheira sobre o solo em um fragmento de Floresta Estacional Decidual no município de Itaara, RS. Para a quantificação da serapilheira, a amostragem foi realizada conforme frações estabelecidas em metodologias: uma para folhas e galhos com diâmetro menor a 1 cm (S0) e outra para material lenhoso com diâmetro de 1 cm a 3 cm (S1), 3,1 cm a 6 cm (S2) e maior que 6 cm (S3). Para a avaliação da fração S0, foram coletadas aleatoriamente cinquenta amostras com moldura metálica de 25 cm x 25 cm, já para a avaliação das frações S1, S2 e S3, foram distribuídas aleatoriamente dez parcelas de 3 m x 2 m na área de estudo. O material amostrado foi acondicionado e levado ao Laboratório de Ecologia Florestal da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria onde foram secas, pesadas, moídas e analisadas quanto aos teores de macro e micronutrientes. Cerca de 45% da serapilheira depositada sobre o solo é formada por materiais lenhosos senescentes (galhos e troncos). As frações da serapilheira diferiram significativamente (p < 0,05), quanto aos teores de nutrientes, com exceção de Mg e Cu; geralmente a fração S0 apresentou teores mais altos de nutrientes. As frações S1, S2 e S3 apresentaram um acúmulo de nutrientes variando de 53,3% para o K a 8,7% para o Fe em relação ao total da serapilheira, demonstrando a importância da quantificação desses componentes durante a avaliação do estoque de nutrientes contidos na serapilheira de ecossistema florestal.

ABSTRACT The aim of the present study was to quantity aboveground mass and nutrients in a deciduous seasonal forest fragment in the district of Itaara, RS, Brazil. For quantification and fractionation of the litter, sampling was carried out using two methodologies: the first one for leaves and branches with diameter smaller than 1 cm (S0) and the second one for woody material with diameter varying from 1 cm to 3 cm (S1), 3.1 cm to 6 cm (S2), and greater than 6 cm (S3). To evaluate the S0 fraction, 50 randomly sample were collected with a metallic frame of 25 cm x 25 cm, and for S1, S2 and S3 10 plots of 3 m x 2 m were distributed randomly in the area of study. Samples was packed and taken to the Laboratory of Forest Ecology of the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, where they were dried, weighed, ground and analyzed for nutrient contents. The woody senescent litter represented about 45% of the litter layer. Litter classes differed statistically in relation to nutrient content (p < 0.05), except for Mg and Cu; usually the S0 fraction presented higher contents. The fractions S1, S2 and S3 showed an accumulation of nutrients ranging from 53.3% to 8.7% K for Fe in the total litter, demonstrating the importance of quantification of these components during the evaluation of nutrient stocks contained in the litter of the forest ecosystem.

A utilização de extractos vegetais no combate a fungos mostra-se como uma alternativa ao uso de produtos químicos. Este trabalho teve a finalidade de testar a eficiência do extracto aquoso obtido de folhas de Nerium oleander (espirradeira) na germinação das sementes de Peltophorum dubium (canafístula), no vigor das plântulas resultantes destas e na sanidade das sementes. Foram testados nove tratamentos, sendo três as concentrações do extracto da espirradeira: 0, 50 e 100%, e três os tempos ensaiados: 15, 30 e 45 minutos. Conclui-se que o extracto aquoso de espirradeira não foi eficiente para o controle de patogénios associados às sementes de canafístula, observando-se ainda que o mesmo incentivou o aparecimento de fungos. Em contrapartida, o extracto aquoso da espirradeira auxiliou a germinação das sementes e vigor das plântulas resultantes destas, sendo as sementes mais infectadas as que obtiveram melhor germinação e desenvolvimento.

The use of plant extracts in the fungi control can be an alternative to the use of chemicals. This work has the purpose to test the efficiency of the aqueous extract obtained from leaves of Nerium oleander (espirradeira) on seed germination of Peltophorum dubium (canafístula), as well on seedling vigour and seed sanity. Nine treatments were tested, with three concentrations of extract: 0, 50 and 100%, and three assay times: 15, 30 and 45 minutes. It was found that the aqueous extract of N. oleander was not effective for controlling the pathogens associated with P. dubium seeds, and there is an increase of fungi incidence. However, the aqueous extract of N. oleander helped seed germination and vigour of the resulting seedlings and the most infected seeds were the ones showing better germination and development.
